This two-part stand is meant to hold the laptop vertically. This allows the exhaust vents and the rear of the chassis to vent hot air parallel to the screen, which hopefully allows the screen to heat up less during intensive operation. The stand also puts the laptop at eye height and conserves desk real estate for discrete keyboards and mice on tight desks. I would use this as I could put a notebook and my keyboard on my desk as compared to a more horizontal laptop stand.
