ASUS Zenwatch 3 Snap in Charge Cradle
thingiverse
This is a snap on charging cradle for the ASUS Zenwatch 3. Electrical connections must be installed. Here's the connection key, viewing it from the back of the watch with connectors at the top; Top Left - Ground Top Right - Green USB Wire Bottom Left - White USB Wire Bottom Right - +5V When needed, looking at the end of a USB plug with the gap facing up, the connectors are Ground, Green, White, and +5V. For the connectors, Pogo Pins were used. These spring-loaded pins are designed for testing circuit boards and fit into the holes. One reason this project was undertaken was due to poor connections on stock rounded pins. The Pogo Pins have small claws on their tips to help establish a connection and exert more pressure against contacts. These pins can be purchased from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32795357197.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dN1lBmk Magnets could potentially still be used while achieving this, but that route hasn't been explored yet. The process was challenging enough to get the pin holes in the correct position. Quick-setting epoxy is being used to secure the pins in place. Instead of placing it down through the holes, it's simply applied to the back. So far, so good. The wires were soldered onto the backs of the pins. There is definitely room for improvement. One area that needs attention is the pins themselves. Having them protrude almost 10mm from the back isn't aesthetically pleasing. A simple back plate would help resolve this issue and could be added soon.
