ASU-85 self-propelled gun (Russia)
thingiverse
The ASU-85 was a remarkable airborne SP gun that dominated the early Cold War era with its impressive size. A 1:76 scale model would be an exciting project, showcasing the intricate details of this massive artillery piece. This model was based on a design found in the SketchUp Warehouse, courtesy of Andrew M, whose efforts are greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, the original suspension was rough and required a complete overhaul. I drew inspiration from my earlier 2S1 offering to create a new suspension system, which has strengthened and simplified the entire model. The printing process involves splitting the model into three main parts, which works relatively smoothly, except for the tedious task of cleaning out the suspension. Be cautious when handling the thin gun, as it tends to warp easily. The center body may have some imperfections on its bottom surface, but it prints well despite being fragile in this area. A combined file is included to demonstrate the overall arrangement of the ASU-85, although it's fairly self-explanatory. A previous version of the model before splitting is also available, but I don't recommend using it due to its large size and poor print quality. It lacks the strengthening and simplification that makes this current version more reliable. This project should be of interest to anyone fascinated by military hardware or 3D printing. Enjoy exploring the intricacies of the ASU-85!
