The urban sculpture known as Asturcones, located in Plaza de la Escandalera, in the city of Oviedo, Principado de Asturias, Spain, is one of over a hundred that adorn the streets of Oviedo. The sculptural group, made from bronze (based on a wood model), is the work of Manuel Valdés Blasco, and it was created in 2005. The artwork was commissioned by Cajastur, a merged financial entity, to commemorate its 125th anniversary. The sculpture features three natural-sized Asturian mountain goats placed at ground level to create an atmosphere of closeness with citizens. This sculptural group, presenting a triangular shape, is the first animal-themed work by the Valencian artist and also his first for Asturias. Here, we see one of the Asturcones alone. In another model, we show two that appear together in the group of three.
