The talus bone, also known as the astragalus and tibia, is a short bone that forms part of the tarsal region in humans and other plantigrades, and at the lower end of the legs in unguligrades. The foot skeleton consists of twenty-six bones arranged in three groups: phalanges, metatarsals, and tarsals; seven short bones are found in two rows in the tarsus, with the posterior row including the astragalus that has six articular surfaces. It is connected to the tibia, fibula or perone, calcaneus, and scaphoid or navicular. Situated at the top of the first row of the tarsal bones, it's commonly referred to as "tiba", where tibs from certain animals are used in a game of chance called "tiba". Because of its shape and six faces, in ancient times citizens used it for randomness and probability. It can be said that the astragalus bone is an ancestor of the six-sided die we know today.
