Astroprint/Octoprint Raspberry PI 9 layer case

Like this thing? Consider my related mod: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2090159 This really belongs on Instructables.com but I didn't want it to get lost there. The STL file is of layer 4, the one I modified. I haven't printed the STL file or tested it for fit. Personally, I used a Dremel tool to cut the parts in layer 4 that didn't fit. See the corresponding picture. The areas to be cut are marked in black on the red Raspberry Pi 2b 9 layer case. The changes made allow this case to be used with a Raspberry Pi 3b. Why did I decide to use this case? I obtained mine for cheap on Ebay, 19 USD. It is no longer available on Ebay but there are similar options. I recently saw it Amazon but the seller seems to be a scam/unreputable. I have asked EEEKitOnline, the ebay seller, if they still have more inventory. I will provide an update if I get a response. I have received a response that there is no more inventory. For those who have this type of case, the STL will allow you to convert your case from a Pi 2b to a Pi 3b. Again I used a Dremel myself and haven't tested the STL file for fit and finish. I got the 10 in 1 kit and modified it to meet my needs. The kit is worth the money considering everything you get. I did have to find the driver for the 300M wireless adapter for Astroprint because they only support the Edimax N150 adapter. I will share the driver/link once I track it down again. I will admit that 300M wireless adapter kept locking up on me constantly but I wonder if it may be related to power. In the end, I bought a beefier power supply, 3A, to see if this would resolve the issue with the NIC locking up. I'm still waiting on the power supply which is coming from China. I'll let everyone know if the power adapter resolves my problem or not. I have gotten the Edimax 150M wireless NIC to work on the Astroprint box with no issues or lock ups. I've attached a 30MM fan with just one screw. This is good enough for now but I've thought of creating a fan shroud to properly force the air through the existing openings. It may be more trouble than it's worth but I keep asking myself, "Why do I own a 3D printer?" The printer is begging me for work! Originally, I was thinking of using a 50MM centrifugal fan and standing it upright between the 2 screw holes, but then I realized that it was overkill. If you're looking for a basic Octoprint/Astroprint setup, this may be worth your investment. Then again, you can always print your own favorite Thingiverse Pi case and buy the necessary accessories for the Raspberry Pi outright. Again, I chose this case for its accessories. This setup has worked nicely for me except for the wireless NIC. It could be the driver or power. I'll post my findings, once I run the new power adapter for a while and identify the root cause of the lock ups. I have attached a C270/C310 camera to this Pi setup and it works wonderfully. I have also configured VNC for remote administration. Putty SSH, works just as well. Nevertheless, it's just nice to have the remote GUI interface sometimes. I have ordered an 8.9CM display and will likely create some type of case for the display to attach to this 9 layer case. If I get enough interest, I may share my experience on YouTube for both Astroprint and Octoprint. I'm still deciding which application I like more and which will work best with the display that I have yet to receive. NOTE: A separate Wireless NIC (independent of the built in wireless hardware on the Pi 3b) is not required unless you want to create an independent printer hub. So please consider this before you buy any EEEKit or other hardware. There are cheaper kits/cases on Ebay if you don't need an independent wireless hub. As always Thingiverse has many beautiful cases that are free thanks to the generous community. I have modified the one screw fan solution because the excessive vibration was loud and annoying. I now use 3 screws to secure the fan to the case. Much quieter!!! I have also added my related STL for the fan solution. Let me know if you're interested in this project or not. Watch this "Thing" for future updates, if you like. P.S. I will add the STL of my display case once it's finished. It's now over 40 days and I still don't have the displays. I've requested a refund from the vendor.
