Astrophotographie Smartphone Mount
thingiverse
This adapter allows you to attach any smartphone to a telescope. It doesn't matter if the eyepiece is 1.25 inch or 2 inch, as the adapter can handle all diameters up to approximately 2.1 inch. The two photos of the Moon were taken using this adapter on a Newton/Dobson 8 inch 1200mm telescope. The 2 inch eyepiece has a focal length of 30mm, while the 1.25 inch eyepiece is 15mm. The quality is surprisingly good. Keep in mind that I was too lazy to put the Newton in fresh and cold air, so the photos were taken through a closed window with all its downsides. The adapter itself has five threaded holes. It makes sense to use an M8 tap and die set to rework the threads. The same goes for the bolts. There are two types of bolts: one with threads and another without. On my Prusa, I was able to print the threaded version, so I wouldn't have needed to rework the threads. However, using a tap and die tool to refinish the M8 threads will work much better. Regardless, you'll need five of these bolts. The plate is designed to secure your smartphone using hair ties or something similar. If you own an old smartphone case, just glue it onto the plate if you like. Make sure you can move your smartphone up and down a little for adjustment. How does it work? Take a look at the photos, please. It's kind of similar to Celestron NexYZ and other solutions. If I find some time, I'll do more work on the smartphone part. But for now, hair ties work well. To print: the adapter and plate were printed with 20% cubic infill, three outer shells. The bolts worked best when printed horizontally, using a brim and support from the bed. I printed them with five shells. All prints were done at 0.2mm resolution using standard PLA. Possible improvements: use real metal bolts, and press some of these special nuts into the holes of the adapter. But then be careful not to scratch your eyepieces too much. I'd love to receive feedback on this.
