Assyrian Relief from Reign of Ashurnasirpal II
sketchfab
The original object is a massive alabaster relief, measuring 77 ¾” wide by 88 ¾”. It was carefully scanned in 3D at an incredible resolution of 50 microns and also photographed for photogrammetry to capture its intricate details. The complete model underwent digital restoration, skillfully removing the telltale T-shape scar that resulted from a previous conservation attempt. With full-resolution data in hand, it was then precision-cut using CNC milling technology. A faithful replica of the original was cast in concrete and meticulously painted to recreate the exact colors and unique organic patterns found on the stone's surface. Provenance: This incredible relic originates from the majestic Northwest Palace in Nimrud, Iraq. It was excavated by the renowned Sir Austen Henry Layard in the 1840s. Later, it fell into the possession of Dr. Henri Byron Haskell, an American missionary stationed in Mosul, who acquired it from Layard in 1859. The Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, proudly claims ownership of this treasure since its acquisition by Haskell that same year and still proudly displays it today.
