Assyria - The Garden Enclose
myminifactory
The upper tier of this majestic wall panel showcases a dignified procession of musicians skillfully playing the lyre, vertical harp and double pipes as they move swiftly towards two stately courtiers holding scepters, who stand guard in front of an ornate enclosure. In the central band, two more courtiers vigilantly protect the same beautifully landscaped garden enclosure, cleverly concealing the royal family from prying eyes. Below this scene, a powerful boar is seen rooting through tall reeds with great intensity. This breathtaking work of art originates from the North Palace in Nineveh, Iraq, and dates back to around 645-640 BC. It was expertly scanned at the 'I Am Ashurbapinal' exhibition held at The British Museum in London in 2019.
