Rocketry Assignment 1: Designing a Model Rocket System Objective: To design and construct a model rocket system capable of achieving a maximum altitude while maintaining stability throughout its flight trajectory. Design Requirements: * The model rocket system must consist of a launch vehicle, recovery system, and payload section. * The launch vehicle must be designed to withstand stress forces during ascent and descent phases. * The recovery system must deploy a parachute or other deceleration device to slow the rocket's descent rate. * The payload section must contain a scientific experiment or educational component. Design Considerations: * Aerodynamics: The shape of the model rocket must minimize air resistance while maximizing lift-to-drag ratio. * Structural Integrity: The launch vehicle and payload section must be designed to withstand stress forces during ascent, peak altitude, and descent phases. * Weight Distribution: The distribution of weight throughout the system must ensure stability and control throughout flight. Materials and Tools: * Model rocket kit or components * Aerodynamic testing equipment (e.g. wind tunnel) * Structural analysis software * Weighing scales Instructions: 1. Design and construct the launch vehicle, recovery system, and payload section. 2. Conduct aerodynamic tests to ensure minimal air resistance and optimal lift-to-drag ratio. 3. Perform structural analysis to verify the stability and integrity of the system. 4. Assemble and test the model rocket system. Deliverables: * A written report detailing the design process, materials used, and results achieved. * A visual presentation (e.g. diagram or drawing) illustrating the design and components of the model rocket system. * The completed model rocket system.
