Assault frigate
thingiverse
Like many people, I spent my youth obsessed with multi-part plastic model kits - you know the ones: Airfix, Testors, Revell. So, I decided to give it another shot, this time with the added benefits of scalability, easier modifications, custom subject matter, and a lower price tag! This is my first attempt down that path. My first creation is a void warship, specifically an assault frigate. It differs from its standard counterpart (which is still in progress) by featuring heavier armament, additional vectoring drive modules, increased mass, and a distinctive fore bulls head shield. The latter is heavily shielded to protect critical systems and serves as an ablative barrier, allowing the assault frigate to launch attacks on more heavily armed vessels while keeping its own vital components out of harm's way. (The primary armament can still fire through the shield perimeter.) This design would likely give the assault frigate an edge in a ramming scenario, but there are no confirmed instances of this tactic being used. Like its standard variant, the assault frigate comes equipped with two multi-role ship's skiffs and flank broadside torpedo bays on both port and starboard sides. The escape pod bays along the aft bridge superstructure have been upgraded to accommodate a greater number of units, given the higher likelihood of the Assault frigate finding itself in a desperate situation behind enemy lines. I've already created a standard frigate using just a few different hull pieces, and I was working on a larger cruiser before putting it aside. If anyone is interested in these models, let me know! Actually, I'm also considering creating a stealth frigate - the possibilities are endless! As for this assault frigate, I was still getting used to my printer when I made it, which led to a few issues that required reprinting individual parts rather than entire sets. As a result, the parts folder is currently in disarray. If any parts are missing, I apologize and will add them as soon as possible. Any excess parts are also my fault, but you can probably just glue them onto random spots!
