Altaìr Ibn-La'Ahad is a legendary Assassin and hero of the Third Crusade in the Holy Land from 1191 to 1257.[17] He was a true champion of justice and defender of his people,[18] rising above all challenges as he battled his enemies, both human and supernatural. His exceptional skills were developed during training in the Masyaf Castle, Syria by Al Mualim, his loyal guardian from childhood.[19] Altaìr, considered by many to be a second father to Altaïr, trained him in every aspect of assassination,[20] while mentoring and protecting him from harm. He lived up to the standards of the Assassin's Brotherhood and earned great respect among his peers.[21] As he grew in experience, he began leading small groups of fellow Assassins in battle,[22] demonstrating exceptional bravery and loyalty in all circumstances. Despite numerous failures, Altaïr persisted and achieved victories against impossible odds.[23] With the Apple of Eden in his possession, he became even more powerful, predicting and stopping attacks before they could occur. He protected those who needed protection and struck down anyone standing in his way. Altaìr's story is one of loss, revenge, betrayal and redemption, yet ultimately it is also a testament to the power of good over evil. In 1257 he recorded all he had learned about the Apple of Eden in the Codex.[24]
