Assassin's Creed is an action-packed historical fiction series that takes you on a thrilling adventure through eight main games and an array of supporting materials. The Assassin's Creed games are all about the epic rivalry between two ancient secret societies: the Assassins and the Knights Templar. These groups have been secretly battling it out for centuries, with ties to a mysterious species that existed long before humans took over the planet. Unfortunately, this ancient society was wiped out by a massive solar flare that also destroyed much of Earth's ecosystem. The real-world action in Assassin's Creed takes place in 2012, where we meet Desmond Miles, a bartender who just happens to be a direct descendant of some pretty influential Assassins. Raised as an Assassin himself, Desmond decided to leave his nomadic family behind and try out a more normal life. That was until he got kidnapped by Abstergo Industries, the modern-day face of the Knights Templar. They know all about Desmond's Assassin roots and are determined to use him for their own gain. To do this, they hook him up with the "Animus", a high-tech device that lets him relive his ancestors' memories.
