Aspirator (Bug-Vac)
thingiverse
This is a manual aspirator for collecting small insects in the field from sweep nets etc. It's based on a design by Rose Entomology (http://www.roseentomology.com/Insect%20Aspirators.htm) which I highly recommend to any entomologist. It works by mouth power! Suck on the vinyl tube and draw insects into a container through the brass tube. The filter blocks insects from entering the vinyl tube or your mouth. I designed this as an exercise proof of concept work in progress. You may notice that I have no photos of it attached to a container or being used in the field. That is because I neglected to size the aspirator head for any particular container and instead made it to fit a 7/8 inch rubber o-ring. You may have luck scaling the design and finding brass tubing and an o-ring to fit which is easier? If you find a container that fits let me know. I don't currently have any plans to redesign this thing because Rose Entomology is back in business again selling equipment.
