Aspi

The "Aspi", a tool used by Italian artisans, was instrumental in shaping wool yarn into neat hanks. To create these hanks, water was first poured into a wooden case attached to the "Aspi". A ball of raw wool was then submerged in the water-filled case, allowing it to soak up moisture. Next, the wet yarn was carefully unwound from the ball and rewound onto the "Aspi" itself. This process was repeated multiple times until several coils of yarn had been created. Once finished, the hanks were removed from the "Aspi" and left to dry or immersed in large pots filled with natural dyes. These natural dyes, derived from plant-based substances, gave the wool its distinctive colors. The artisans took great care in selecting the right combination of dyes to achieve the desired shades and hues.
