Ashigaru Naginata Regiment

myminifactory

Intended for 3d print. This model pack contains a regiment of Ashigaru, commoner-class infantry used between the 14th and 19th century. The Ashigaru made up the bulk of japanese armies during the Sengoku and Tokugawa Shogunate eras. The Naginata is a pole weapon that was used by Samurai, Ashigaru and the religious orders of Sohei monks. It is essentially a sword with an exceptionally long hilt. The Naginata is believed to have entered use in the 9th century, and its general advantages was its ability to keep enemies at distance and striking mounted soldiers. The Naginata would gradually fall out of use as a battlefield weapon with the advent of firearms in the 16th century, but remained popular within martial arts and as a symbol of status.   The regiment includes 15 unique soldier models in total, including two commanders. The model pack also includes two round bases, a plain naginata as well as a naginata adorned with a dragon. See image gallery for a depiction of all included models. Note that all soldier models prints as single-piece models with their weapons already included, so you can't switch weapons unless you physically clip off the carried naginatas post-print.
