Asclepius was a legendary hero and god of medicine in ancient Greek mythology and religion. He embodied the healing aspect of medical arts; his daughters were Hygieia ("Health", the goddess who personified cleanliness, sanitation, and wellness), Iaso (the goddess of recovery from illness), Aceso (the goddess of healing processes), Aglæa/Ægle (the goddess of radiant good health), and Panacea (the universal remedy goddess).
