Artist: Cynthia Fraula-Hahn plaster embedded gauze, acrylic This sculpture celebrates a dear friend's courageous journey after undergoing a mastectomy and partial reconstruction. By modeling for this project, she felt a deep sense of connection with others who had walked similar paths. Following her surgery, she struggled to find her place among other women, feeling isolated and distinct. During the wrapping process, she described her experience as an ascension, highlighting its transformative nature. The image of feathers unfolding into birds resonated deeply with me, representing a powerful tribute to her resilience. As a yoga instructor, she is particularly attuned to the third chakra, which embodies energy, vitality, desire, and power – all qualities exemplified by the vibrant yellow hue I chose for this piece. My goal in creating this sculpture was to honor my friend's beauty and bravery, inspiring others with her unwavering spirit.
