Ascension Box Organizer with Rails
thingiverse
Ascension is a super popular board game, and I was pretty surprised when I didn't see a box organizer on Thingiverse. I decided to try my hand at something slightly more complex in Tinkercad, and as I'm an absolute amateur, I fumbled my way around until I came up with something that's a simple design that solves a big problem with card games for me:\r\n\r\nStoring a lot of cards can be such a pain! They just keep falling over when I'm trying to grab some cards.\r\n\r\nI got tired of clawing at fallen cards, so I brainstormed a solution: a box organizer with a rail system and dividers with tabs that would fit in the rails and allow easy adjustment of the dividers and limit the problem of the dividers and cards falling over. \r\n\r\nThe word "groove" would be more accurate, but when I thought of the original concept, the word "rail" stuck with me. Moving on...\r\n\r\nAscension has a ton of game play in a fairly large box. Each big box standalone expansion has tons of room. With this system, you can easily fit half of all available content into one of the big boxes. Last I checked, there are 10 different big box and multiple small box expansions. Consolidating things into one or two of the big boxes will save a ton of shelf space.\r\n\r\nThe one thing I omitted from the design is space for the clunky cardboard boards that come with each big box. They're really not necessary, so I left them out. I also got a neoprene playmat which looks nicer and takes up less space.\r\n\r\nThis system is modular...print what you need. If you only have one or two expansions, print one card box and a few dividers. A big box will accommodate four card boxes.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, I designed two versions of token holders that nest inside the card boxes. One version (the version in the photos) has token boxes for the 1-honor gems, 5-honor gems, and the gems from the Ascension: Dreamscape expansion. This is the "Ascension token box x 3" stl. If you don't have Dreamscape, or want more room for honor tokens, print the taller "Ascension token box x 2" stl.\r\n\r\nThe token box bottoms are tapered so that they nest into the token box below them, reducing spilling risk in the box. Additionally, you can lock the token boxes into the card box using one or more dividers (see photo).\r\n\r\nI included two widths of dividers, 1mm and 2mm. I like how rigid the 2mm version is, but the 1mm version will take less space.\r\n\r\nWhen printing dividers, print a test divider first. When I first printed mine, I ended up resizing the stl slightly because it was too loose. If it's too loose, scale the divider length-wise up 2% or so and try again. If it's too tight, scale it down length-wise a bit. \r\n\r\nThis system should fit sleeved cards. I don't typically sleeve my cards, so I don't have a way to check that. The Ascension branded sleeves measure 89mm x 64mm, and the box organizer is 94mm wide by 73mm high.
