The ultimate goal is to create a low-cost "professional" CNC tool that can operate within a substantial 50cm x 50cm x 40cm volume (X, Y, Z). Documentation and STL Files Due to the project's sheer scope, including numerous parts, extensive documentation, and feedback from various sources, all relevant information is made available on GitHub for easier reference. Project Objectives 1. **Modularity**: The system should be easily adaptable, allowing users to add, remove, or update components as needed. This modularity is considered the project's most critical aspect. 2. **Professional Standards**: High-quality materials are used to ensure fast, precise, and robust performance, even if it means slightly increasing costs. The goal is to achieve professional-grade results without breaking the bank. 3. **Affordability**: Despite the high quality of components, the overall cost should remain significantly lower than that of commercial solutions, estimated at around $500. It's anticipated that this CNC tool will deliver precision comparable to or surpassing that of professional equipment. 4. **Significant Work Volume**: The machine is designed to accommodate a substantial 50cm x 50cm x 40cm work area within a larger 75cm cube, making it easily transportable in a car. This ratio far exceeds the print volumes offered by most 3D printers, such as the Haeckel's 47cm x 47cm x 57cm size for a 20cm x 20cm x 35cm print volume. 5. **For Makers**: The project is specifically designed for individuals with time on their hands, who are handy and familiar with 3D printing (or have access to someone who is). This CNC tool promises precision and accuracy that makers will appreciate. Although the machine is not yet complete, the primary hardware components are ready for use.
