I am a painter and needed a view finder that would help me decide what to paint and what aspect ratio canvas or panel to use. As with many things, I couldn't find one and didn't want to wait, so I designed and printed one. My artist friend liked it, so I printed him one as well. You can use the view finder to find the best view to paint or draw, either in nature or cropping a part from bigger picture. Just hold it up to the view, close one eye, and move it around. It's also useful for drawing boxes for thumbnail sketches. There are two parts, the frame and the slide. They go together as shown in the pictures. You may need to trim the entrance of the guide channel if your printer bulges a little at the ends of edges. The view finder will click into place aspect ratios of 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 2:3 and 1:2. It would be better printed in a neutral colour like grey, but I didn't have any!
