Artillery (sliding breech block)
myminifactory
I'm excited about my latest cannon project because it's a bit more challenging than my previous ones. I drew inspiration from various artillery pieces I've seen in pictures and on TV, but this time I wanted to create something unique by combining different elements. My goal is to design a printable model that allows me to interact with the mechanism and figure out how it works. To assemble this cannon, you'll need to print all the parts and add a spring from an old pen to raise the breech. A bent paperclip also comes in handy as a push rod to eject the casing. It took me some trial and error to get everything working smoothly. I had to print multiple versions before I got the tolerances just right, which meant removing all the support plastic from the breech on my 3D printer with its specific settings. With the block and lever fitting perfectly, you might need to sand them down to achieve a precise fit. In some cases, using graphite lubricant can also help things move more smoothly in the early stages of assembly.
