The 105mm howitzer, Howitzer 105mm M2, M2A1, M101 or M101 A1, is an American-made 105mm twin-arrow towed field artillery piece developed prior to World War II. It was used on all fronts of the U.S. Army throughout World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. It served in many armies, in particular in the French army during the Indochina war and the Algerian war. Of classic and robust design, easy to use, with a wide angle of attack (-4.5°, +66°), a little more reduced in bearing (23°), it had two notable defects, its important weight (2.258 tons) and the fact that its tube was a little short (22.5 calibres or 2.365 m), limiting its range. However, it was easy to transport, well balanced, very accurate and extremely reliable and robust: the M2A1 is still used in some armies, including NATO, more than 50 years after production stopped.
