Artificial gravity space station
sketchfab
This is a precise model of the design outlined in the paper "DESIGN CONCEPTS FOR A MANNED ARTIFICIAL GRAVITY RESEARCH FACILITY" by Joe Carroll. It is a most feasible and sensible design I've seen for a near-term space station that will enable us to test how low gravity affects human health. This is critical before people are sent on any mission to Mars, or a mission to the Moon that lasts more than a few weeks. This rotating dumbbell design is highly efficient, the most economical option for such a facility. Additionally, it features an extra benefit - spaceships can be grappled onto long cables extending from one end of the spinning facility. That endeavor could allow the development over time of rotating skyhooks. Skyhooks are the key to affordable mass transport to and from space.
