Articulating Cube Chain Elements for Snake Puzzle or Fixture
thingiverse
This design was created to produce a straightforward set of components that could replicate a fun wooden cube chain puzzle efficiently. So far, I've only printed this in its original size (2cm edge length) and from PLA. PLA is robust but can be delicate. Some types of PLA may even break when snapping two elements together. Overall, the current version is surprisingly strong and resilient for its tiny feature size. If the elements are simply snapped together once (rotating them while pushing them together) and not attempted to be taken apart again, they last quite well. Printing scaled-up versions or using more flexible plastics such as PETG, TPU, ABS, or Nylon may make this more realistic in its application. Please share your results if you try it. Also, feel free to mix it up - the FreeCAD source is included! This was one of my first designs I ever created in FreeCAD and I struggled to eliminate optional holes without the design becoming unstable. I haven't played with this for months, but here it is - have fun!
