Articulating Arm Pop Socket Kit
thingiverse
This is a DIY kit for crafting an articulating arm to ultimately support a pop-socket holder for mobile phones. The parts, scale sizes, and printing guidelines are detailed in a spreadsheet within the attached files. Although I showcase a mount on my desk in the images, I recently discovered that the desk vice is not open-source, so I'm unable to share it with you. (I find it curious that the vice itself is a remix of another design... go figure.) In any case, I used standard 1/4" x 20 screws. The screw head and nut inlays are intentionally undersized, requiring them to be melted into place. To accomplish this, I use a hot glue gun to heat up the screw and pliers to insert it, while for the nut, I employ a soldering iron. I modified the ingenious slide-in holder of this design by elle2005: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2827208 There are two versions available - one with ribs on the left side and another with ribs on the right side - to account for any potential misalignment issues. Two mounts, aside from the aforementioned vise, are included in this design. One is specifically designed for snapping into a pop socket clip. I extend my gratitude to TJT2007's design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2560011) of a pop socket clip, which greatly aided me in achieving accurate scale proportions. However, when I attached it to my car, the mount became too top-heavy and snapped my actual pop-socket clip. To address this issue, I designed a large flat mount. For added stability, I employed 1/2" foam-type double stick tape on that mount to secure it to my car. It functions flawlessly. This project is still in development, with plans to add a pegboard mount and design an alternative vise. Lastly, I apologize for the numerous colors used in this design. This result occurs when working with partially used filament spools.
