Articulated Laser Cut Covid Face Shield
thingiverse
Everyone is making face shields, but the 3D printed ones were both too slow and while the hospitals are super appreciative, feedback from nurses indicates they don't fit well and can hurt their head after a period of time. So I designed an articulated laser cut version that fits from the smallest to the largest heads. It's extremely comfortable to wear for hours and uses any off-the-shelf 8.5 x 11 transparency or binder cover, punched with a 3-hole pattern. This allows them to be easily and quickly changed, even while wearing gloves. This is also the cheapest to make of any design I've seen, as a full sheet of 180 costs only 48 cents each and wastes almost no materials. While someone can print maybe 20 per day, I've made as many as 600 in a day by myself. The goal is to keep the cost way down while providing a durable, comfortable, and easy-to-sanitize face shield. These designs were approved and extremely well received by three hospitals in Atlanta and several in New York and Detroit. Please share and please use any tools at your disposal to make shields, whether 3D printed, hand-made, or laser cut! Every shield matters! These are for donation only. If you have to recoup your material costs, that's fine, but no commercial use please, as we have a provisional patent on them to ensure they remain in the public domain and aren't sold. Thanks all!
