Articulated Ears
thingiverse
Articulated ears with space for micro servo installation, designed specifically for Barf's character in the movie Spaceballs. The ears can also pass as small bunny ears due to their design. Each ear consists of a solid base plate featuring six holes that allow for attachment to a hat or wig. Future iterations might utilize flexible headbands instead, depending on how quickly others adapt this concept. Design Process: I followed Nerys' tutorial from YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmV726FYrBk&t=1804s) for creating articulated hinges, but used a triangular prism to achieve the desired cuts. I incorporated Nerys' hinge and punch design from his Articulated Anything starter files on Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2840744). Thanks to Nerys for sharing this valuable resource. Testing Revealed: I experimented with different depths, starting at 10mm which proved too stiff and then at 5mm which was overly flimsy. A medium depth of 8mm provided the perfect balance between flexibility and structure.
