Articulated Cartoon Octopus

Articulated Cartoon Octopus

thingiverse

I designed this creative, cartoonish octopus as a test of print-in-place chain links that can be produced with ease. It demands a bigger printer bed to print at 100%, since each leg is connected directly to the body and can't be printed separately without compromising its structural integrity. This updated version includes a hole on the bottom end of each leg, allowing for the easy insertion of a 3mm rare earth magnet that enables it to stick firmly to metallic objects like refrigerators or computer cases with magnetic force. The head is designed to be hollow from the start, saving filament when printing and minimizing material waste. It's engineered to require no extra supports and can be fully articulated right off the print bed without any hassle. The links for each leg were inspired by the cool Fish Fossilz model created by muzz64. I printed the figures in the photos using my Printrbot Metal Plus with glow-in-the-dark PLA filament that glows brightly.
