Artemis, known as the ‘Diana of Gabii’Marble
myminifactory
The short tunic and sandals reveal Artemis (Diana), goddess of the hunt, in this depiction. Artemis is securing her cloak over her right shoulder with a gesture that is rarely shown. This was once believed to signify that this statue was a replica of the Artemis Brauronia, a marble sculpture created by Praxiteles around 330 BC for the Acropolis in Athens. It's possible that the Gabii statue is actually a copy of a later work from the Hellenistic or Roman era, executed in the style of Praxiteles.
