Artemis (Diana) at The Louvre, Paris

myminifactory

We recognize this sculpture by its distinctive clothing, which clearly identifies the depicted figure as Artemis, or Diana, the Goddess of hunting. The clothing bears a striking resemblance to the famous Diana of Versailles, also available on MyMiniFactory, with the long chiton tucked in to facilitate the act of hunting. A coat, known as the himation, forms a series of pleats and passes from the left shoulder to the lower side. The lowered hand, now missing, was likely holding a bow, similar to that of the Diana of Versailles, while the right arm is lifted. The original work, lost to time, which inspired this replica from the Roman period, may have been created during the Hellenistic era around 200 BC. We know it through copies of the piece housed in the Archaeological Museum of Seville and the Antiquarium of the Palatine in Rome. This object is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access. Scan The World is an open-source community effort, and we invite you to contribute if you have interesting items you'd like to share. Email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can help.
