Artemis (Diana) at The Louvre, Paris
cults3d
We can identify this sculpture by its clothing, which clearly indicates that the depicted figure is Artemis, also known as Diana, the goddess of hunting. The outfit is remarkably similar to the famous Diana of Versailles, a replica of which is available on MyMiniFactory. The long chiton, or tunic, has been folded up to facilitate the act of hunting. A coat, or himation, forming a series of pleats, falls from the left shoulder and drapes down to the lower side. The lowered hand, now missing, probably held a bow, similar to that of the Diana of Versailles, while the right arm is lifted. The original work, which has since been lost, that inspired this replica was likely created during the Roman period and may have originated from a Hellenistic creation dated around 200 BC. This information can be inferred from other copies of the piece found in the Archaeological Museum of Seville and the Antiquarium of the Palatine in Rome.
