Art Project: Have your 3D Model displayed in an Art Gallery

Participate in a crowd-sourced art project being showcased at an art gallery in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada! To contribute to this art project, submit 3D models to be printed in red ABS plastic and displayed on shelves in a grid pattern at the art gallery in early May. The concept involves editing the cube model on this site into any desired shape, as long as it meets the parameters specified below. No content judgments will be made; only technical (manufacturing) judgments are required. Any uploaded models will be displayed at the gallery setting. The printed models may be given away for free during the exhibition and replaced by new prints of each submitted model. Photos will be posted to this site after the exhibition concludes. Note: This project aims to explore the question of whether crowdsourced art can indeed be considered art, challenging traditional artist roles with manufactured artists sourcing creative content from users. Theory suggests that this phenomenon speaks to the evolving relationship between humans and information in today's digital age. With advancements in 3D printing, new dynamics are unfolding regarding object ownership, creativity, and the manufacturing process itself, drawing parallels with changes experienced within the music industry. Instructions for contributors: 1. Edit the original 10cm^3 Cube model using Google SketchUp (.SKP) or any compatible modeling program. 2. Upload edited models in STL or .SKP format via https://dbinbox.com/samfielder Key Parameters to ensure successful submissions: - Models must be based on edits of the provided original model, avoiding copied designs (a code of honor will guide this selection process). - The final product must fit within a 20cm x 20cm x 20cm print bed size. - Reasonable ease of printing is expected without requiring intricate or difficult supports; some models might be cut in two halves to glue back together post-printing, if necessary. - The design should not pose any issues related to rolling. The Selection Process: A maximum of the first 25 submissions meeting these criteria will be selected. If a high volume of quality submissions exceed this limit, the project may expand to accommodate additional pieces.
