Art Deco style lampshade
thingiverse
This is an Art Deco style lampshade designed to fit standard US lamp sockets. Printed in "clear" ABS, it pairs perfectly with a 4.5 watt LED bulb offering ("40 watt" output). UPDATE: please use version 3 of the top section; I've also uploaded the matching scad file. Instructions Three pieces are spiral printed by design. Print the body and top section slowly, particularly watching at the end to avoid overheating as much as possible. The top section has a cylinder in the center that needs to be trimmed down for bulb fitment. It remains long to serve as support during printing. Print the connector at your desired speed with top and bottoms turned off - it's just a tube. Insert the connector into the top section, pushing all the way up so it rests against the flutes. Mount the top section onto the lamp holder, insert the bulb, then carefully place the main body onto the connector. Some twisting may help to close up any gap that arises due to the spiral on the connector acting as a thread. I printed everything on my Rostock Max v2 using 0.4mm nozzle at 0.8mm width and 0.2mm layer height. Examples were sliced with Cura, however I'm unsure if other slicers can handle the incomplete base of top and body sections. Watch out for this when using alternative slicers - you want a 76.6mm hole in the bottom of each part. USE CAUTION the first time you assemble and turn on the lamp. Don't flip in the switch and leave, instead hang around until you understand your particular setup's heat generation and feel safe turning it off. Don't just ignore heat precautions, also be aware incandescent bulbs aren't a good idea...they could catch fire if not used correctly. If heat issues occur, cut some holes in top and bottom for improved ventilation - baffles can even be added inside (loose, resting on steps) to avoid "beams" from light. The bulb I'm using sends most heat through the edison socket, which works well with this design as lamp holder body stays outside plastic pieces.
