The majestic art deco façade soars above the Weston Entrance of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto's vibrant heart. Located directly above the entrance to the eastern wing, this stunning architectural feature gazes out onto Queen’s Park, its grandeur a testament to the visionary design of Alfred H. Chapman and James Oxley, who first unveiled it in 1933. The intricately carved doorframe is a breathtaking masterpiece, blending harmoniously New World symbols with those of the ancient Old World: majestic Canada finds expression through a towering totem pole, a sturdy tepee, and a proud bison, while the timeless allure of the Old World shines forth in an imposing obelisk, a towering pyramid, a regal Assyrian lamassu (winged bull spirit), and celestial zodiac signs.
