Array Rods (square)
thingiverse
These Array Rods have the numeric representation on one side and square-based row/column of that number on the reverse. Similar to Cuisenaire rods and other color-coded length models, array rods are centimeter based. On one side is the numeral representing the rod's value and on the other is a row/column of circles. They were created for 2nd and 3rd grade mathematics to facilitate learning multiplication and division with rows and columns in mind. However, they are also very useful with 1st grade students in learning to compose/decompose numbers for addition and subtraction. Update (Aug 21, 2023): I tweaked the file so that the numbers are now on the baseplate and the squares are on top. This seems to improve the quality of the prints slightly. Also, I added a 100 plate in the files to allow this to be used with larger multiplication/division problems (i.e., the area model for multiplication & division).
