Ocean Industry: Aziliense Harpoon Discovered in the Blue Cave I of Cangas de Onís, Asturias. This is one of few harpoons decorated with this culture from the Final Paleolithic period. Another harpoon with the same type of decoration was found in the Lluera cave, in the Nalón river basin. The shape of the teeth differs from those of Magdaleniense, the chronologically earlier culture, as they adjust to the shape of the shaft. Found at level 5a, dated to ancient Aziliense, which begins around 11500 BP. It measures 201mm long by 15mm wide and 5.5mm thick. It has one row of seven teeth. Its base is relatively underdeveloped compared to the length of the piece; however it is well defined. No perforation exists, but a shallow longitudinal groove is present that may be related to its hanging mechanism. On display at the permanent exhibit in the Archaeological Museum of Asturias, Oviedo.
