Armstrong Space Suit

The Smithsonian Museum has digitized many of its artifacts, including Neil Armstrong's space suit from Apollo 11 using 3D scanning technology. You can view them here: https://3d.si.edu/. The museum's project involves capturing detailed digital models of their collections. To see the digitizing process in action, check out this video: https://youtu.be/cIlsQI40oSY. The Smithsonian Museum has created a hollow 3D model with a complete interior surface to preserve the intricacies of Neil Armstrong's space suit. However, producing such a model would require double the amount of plastic and time. By removing the interior surface using Meshlab software, I was able to create a more manageable print. Additional supports were added using Meshmixer to facilitate printing around the fingertips. When printing this 3D model, it is essential to use thin layers to optimize the tiny overhangs caused by folds in the legs. This will ensure a successful print and prevent any issues with the model's structure.
