Arms of the Hanseatic League
myminifactory
Some foreign merchants in London, notably those from Cologne, Hamburg, Lübeck, and Danzig, held special trading rights as part of the Hanseatic League. English merchants grew increasingly resentful because Hanse traders paid less customs duty and tax, and could trade freely with anyone they wanted. By 1552, a group of Londoners seized control of the customs, effectively ending the League's exclusive privileges.
