The Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, also known as the Paulista War or Brazilian Civil War, was a significant uprising that took place in the state of São Paulo against Getúlio Vargas's 1930 coup d'état. Vargas seized control of the nation by force and gained support from the military and influential politicians in Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, and Paraíba. The movement grew out of widespread discontent with Vargas's rule by decree, which disregarded the Constitution, and his establishment of a provisional government. The 1930 coup also had a profound impact on São Paulo, eroding its autonomy and preventing the inauguration of governor Júlio Prestes as president, while simultaneously ousting President Washington Luís, who was governor from 1920 to 1924. These events marked the end of the First Republic. Vargas appointed an outsider from the northeast as governor of São Paulo, further fueling resentment among locals. This armored boat was designed and built by students at the Politechnic Institute in São Paulo. The image shows the vessel undergoing testing on the Tiete River. Two boats were constructed during this period: the MF-11 and MF-12 models.
