Armoiries de Fécamp (76)
sketchfab
The arms of the Abbey of Fécamp are described as follows: "Argent, six branches of laurier de sinope, the stems passed in sautoir and three mitres d'or, doublées de gueules, brochantes on the whole." (1) Sinople is a green color. (2) Gueules is a red color. The three mitres symbolize other abbeys that depend on Fécamp: Saint-Taurin d'Evreux, Notre-Dame de Bernay and Sainte-Berthe de Blangy. (3) A mitre is the headgear worn by the Pope and bishops as well as some abbots during religious ceremonies. The arms or heraldic bearings always appear within an escutcheon. They appeared in the middle of the 12th century.
