Armada Chest, Nuremberg, 17th century, Polychrome Iron. Musée du Cinquantenaire (Brussels, Belgium). Made with ReMake and ReCap from AutoDesk. Locksmiths in 17th-century Nuremberg specialize in crafting polychrome iron safety boxes. Renowned for their unbreakable reputation, these chests spread throughout Europe. Small ones, often used as jewelry cases, measure just a few centimeters, while larger ones, destined for banks and chancelleries, can reach up to two meters long. The closure mechanism dominates the entire cover. It's operated by key, through a hidden lock entrance on top of the cover. The front lock is mere camouflage. Rarely preserved, it sparks great interest in this replica. The term "armada chest" stems from the misconception that these chests stored assets financing Spanish Armada campaigns in 1588.
