Come join this collaborative project to create the Tabernacle of Moses (Mishkan) as described in Exodus, with its courtyard and objects! Here is the link for the group I just created, and I am hoping others will want to join in to make more of the models. https://www.printables.com/group/tabernacle-of-moses-mishkan-collaborative-project-15vk33RThis object is the Ark of the Covenant. It was designed for me by Bogdan Kukharenko, 3D artist. (https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/bogdank52)Here is information on the project:Tabernacle of Moses / Mishkan Collaborative ProjectProject DescriptionThis is a project to create printable 3D models of the Tabernacle of Moses, also known in Hebrew as the Mishkan (משכן) the Tent of Congregation, or Tent of Meeting, comprising: the courtyard, the courtyard objects, as well as the tent/sanctuary itself and the objects within the tent.I am starting this project hoping that people will want to collaborate, and take on the jobs of creating the various parts, assemblies and sub-assemblies.What was the Mishkan? “After giving the Torah at Sinai, G‑d asked Moses to create a home for Him, so that He could dwell among His people. This was the Mishkan (Tabernacle). The Mishkan was a portable sanctuary, a spiritual center in the midst of the desert. It was the place where the People of Israel would bring sacrifices to atone for sins or express gratitude. It was the place where G‑d would communicate with Moses, His voice emanating from between the cherubs atop the ark in the Holy of Holies. It was the place where G‑d was close to His people.”[1]The aim is to design individual printable parts, and place them in assemblies, so that they can be printed individually, or printed in assembled fashion. The assemblies should be arranged in multiple formations, allowing printing of, for example (1) only the interior of the holy of holies and its objects (2) the entire interior of the tent with objects (both the anteroom (Kodesh) and the holy of holies (Kodesh HaKodashim) (3) the interior and exterior of the tent (4) the entire courtyard and tent, with courtyard objects. There are many traditions, schools of thought, systems of belief, and historical approaches for interpreting the biblical sources as to the physical design and appearance of the Mishkan. For the purposes of this project, the preferred sources will be:The drawings and margin discussion in the Kehot Chumash (Old Testament), which are publicly available (see endnote links) for the parshas (torah readings) of Terumah (Exodus 25:1-27:19)[2], [3], Tetzaveh (Exodus 27:20-30:10)[4], [5], Ki Tisa (Exodus 30:11-34:35)[6], [7] and Vayakhel (Exodus 35:1-38:20)[8], [9]. Some images from these sources can be seen here: Other materials from Chabad, available at chabad.org. Where chabad offers two interpretations we will default to the first.Books from Kehot and Artscroll, for example “The Mishkan / Tabernacle” by Rabbi Avrohom Biderman[10]“The Tabernacle: Its Structure and Utensils” by Moshe Levine[11] (out of print), with some images available here: https://imgur.com/a/xgD2AOtWe will use the following unit conversions: Cubit = 480mm[12]Handbreadth = 80mm[12]We will work in a ratio of 216:1. This would allow the entire courtyard with sanctuary assembly to be printed in a single print on a Bambulab X1 which is a popular multicolor FDM 3D printer. For smaller “sub-assemblies” we can use different ratios, for instance a 72:1 for the whole sanctuary, or 36:1 for the Kodesh HaKodashim. The priests can be 178cm tall.References:[1] “What Was the Tabernacle (Mishkan)? - The Portable Holy Temple Moses Built.” Accessed: Mar. 28, 2024. [Online].
