The C1 Ariete is a highly advanced main battle tank developed specifically for the Italian Army by Iveco Fiat and Oto Melara. This cutting-edge vehicle is designed to engage targets in a variety of conditions, whether stationary or moving, day or night. The Ariete's thermal imager and laser rangefinder provide unparalleled visibility, allowing it to attack opponents with precision. The standard load-out consists of three primary weapons systems: the 120 mm main gun, the 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun manned by a crew member, and the 7.62 mm anti-aircraft mounted by the tank commander. The Ariete's fire-control system is manufactured in Italy by Galileo Avionica, known as the TURMS Fire-Control System. This advanced system features a panoramic commander's scope for increased visibility, a stabilized gunner's platform with thermal optics and laser rangefinder to enhance accuracy, and a digital fire-control mini-computer. The computer can measure wind speed, humidity, and exterior weather conditions to increase accuracy, combining them with the turret's angle of elevation, attitude, and barrel wear. The Ariete's primary weapon is the 55-calibre 120 mm main gun produced by Oto Melara. This powerful gun features a smoothbore design, autofrettaged, and stress-hardened for increased durability over extended periods of fire. The combined load-out of armour-piercing, fin-stabilized, discarding sabot APFSDS and high-explosive anti-tank HEAT rounds allows for effective engagement of targets. The Ariete's powerplant is powered by a 25.8 litres turbo-charged Fiat-Iveco 12-cylinder diesel engine. The engine produces 937 kilowatts equivalent to 1250-HP at 2,300 rpm and has a max torque of 4,615 Nm at 1,600 rpm. The vehicle's transmission is the ZF LSG3000 automatic transmission, licensed from the German engineering firm ZF, which features four forward gears and two reverse, allowing for a top cruising speed of 65 km/h. The Ariete can climb grades rated up to 60% and ford waterways of up to 1.25-m on-the-fly. The caterpillar tracks are composed of seven road wheels and four drive rollers, providing stability and traction. The Ariete's price is $110.00, making it a highly affordable option for military forces around the world.
