The Sumerians called Aries the constellation of the ram. In ancient Greek mythology, the constellation Aries is the catastrophe of the flying ram Kriya, which was sent by the goddess of clouds Nephela to save her children Frix and Gella. Aries carried them across the Dardanelles to Colchis, where he was sacrificed by Frix, and his fleece became a famous artifact, which was subsequently hunted by the Argonauts.
