Are You My Mother

Are You My Mother

The little egg sat high up on a branch so slim, A tiny thing with eyes that looked quite dim. It tweeted loud and long with beak so bright, "Who is my mother?" it cried out in the night. The sun was shining down upon its face, And warmth was spreading all around the place. But still it wondered, "Where do I belong?" As if it needed someone to sing a happy song. With feathers soft as silk and eyes so wide, The little egg sat there, feeling rather shy inside. It looked around for a sign or a clue, To find its mother and know what to do. Then down came a bird with wings so bright, And asked the egg, "Little one, where's your light?" The egg replied, "I'm lost, I don't know the way," And the bird said, "Don't you worry, I'll show you today." With every step, the little egg felt bold, As they walked together, young and old. They met a cat with fur so soft and gray, Who asked the egg, "Where are you going today?" The little egg replied, "I'm searching for my mother dear," And the cat said, "Don't you worry, I'll be here." Then came a dog with ears so floppy and bright, And he joined in too, with all his might. Together they walked, through sunshine and rain, Until at last, they reached the bird's domain. The little egg looked up with eyes so wide, As the bird said, "This is where you'll reside." With joy and cheer, the little egg did say, "I've found my mother! Come what may!" And the bird replied, "Welcome to your home," And wrapped its wings around it, all snug as a foam. The little egg felt safe and sound within, Its heart full of love for the bird's warm kin. It knew it had found its place in the world outside, With a mother who loved it, and a family with pride.
