Arctic Loon/Black-throated Diver - Gavia arctica
sketchfab
This male loon was discovered lifeless beside a lake in Sweden. Restored to its former majesty by the top taxidermist in the country, who formerly worked for the National Museum of Natural History (Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet), the loons "new eyes" were custom made by a Norwegian expert. The 3D-model with its textures was created using the 3D-scanning technique called photogrammetry and consists of approximately 600 photos. I decided to challenge myself so instead of my digital SLR, I used my everyday Samsung A50 (a low-end mobile phone, costing €200 with an acceptable camera). This means that I can create a high-quality 3D-scan with minimal resources, wherever I am. This model is the culmination of my final project for the online course with diver and photogrammetry specialist Mariusz Milka: "The Fundamentals of Aerial and Land Photogrammetry Online Course." The software I used to scan the image was called Agisoft Metashape. For any inquiries, please contact me at adam@dekaminski.com
