Arco de Santo Domingo. Vitoria-Gasteiz
sketchfab
The Convent of Santo Domingo, located in what is now the Plaza de Aldabe and Santo Domingo, was built at the beginning of the 13th century. This arch is the only surviving architectural element. Since 1835, the convent has no longer served as such, and in 1916 it was demolished. The most notable feature of this building was the cloister. This cloister had 22 arches, of which only this one remains. For almost two-thirds of the 20th century, this arch was located in the courtyard of Vitoria-Gasteiz's secondary education institute, in what is now the Plenary Hall of the Basque Parliament. Today it can be found in San Prudencio's gardens, facing Artium, although its restoration and transfer back to the Basque Parliament's gardens are planned as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Basque Parliament.
