The name of the bridge originates from the legend that the devil himself constructed it after two bridges had been built before, only to collapse each time. As compensation, the devil agreed to take the soul of the first person crossing the bridge, so a little dog was led across instead. Enraged, the devil slammed his paws violently against the surrounding rocks, creating the distinctive "Potholes."
