Architects dream chair

myminifactory

This is my entry to the 3D printable homeware design competition. I've created a chair that showcases my passion for building-inspired furniture, which has been a dream of mine since becoming an architect. As an architect, I've always envisioned furniture that looks like structures, and this single-seater 'building' brings that vision to life. The intricate details in the design would be perfectly highlighted by a large print, demonstrating the capabilities of 3D printing and the impressive size of the printer used to create it. Although I'm based in Australia, I'd be happy to cover shipping costs for my entry to reach its destination. A unique feature of this design is the opening through the seat that allows LED lights to be installed, creating a striking visual effect when lit up at night. I'm confident that my creation would look amazing, and I've carefully designed it with arches under roofs, overhangs, and other features to ensure support-free printing. To bring out its best features, I recommend printing the design in light grey. After finalizing the model, I've moved on to creating renders while the 3D print is underway. The print resolution is set at 25 microns, and assuming everything goes smoothly, it should take around 24 hours for a 160mmx160mm print. Fingers crossed that I'll still have time to add photos of the finished product before the competition deadline.
